Expression through shapes and colours

Workshops

A series of workshops for people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities.

About the project

Expression through shapes and colours is the series of art workshops we began at Centrul Sf. Maria, for people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities. We set out to create a space where people can express themselves through creativity, at their own pace and in their own way.

The workshops rest on cultural mediation: a method by which we bring people closer to art and to artistic processes in a way that is accessible and adapted to them. Mediation helps us build bridges between the participants and the world of art, so that exploring happens naturally and without pressure.

We work with basic elements (colour, materials, gesture, play, rhythm, objects and images), which we turn into exercises in exploration. Everything starts from small things, such as a colour or a texture, and grows step by step into a personal creative process.

For us, the process matters more than the result. The workshops become settings in which creativity turns into language, and artistic expression becomes a way for each person to make visible their own way of seeing the world.
